Tanabata (七夕)

1-31 July 2019

2019.07.01

Tanabata (七夕), also known as the "Star Festival", that takes place on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year, is a Japanese festival originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively) which usually are separated from each other by the Milky Way.

One popular Tanabata custom is to write one's wishes on a piece of paper and hang that piece of paper on bamboo tree, in the hope that the wishes become true.
